As our staff has grappled with the traumatic events of the last weeks, we find ourselves struggling to find adequate words when words are simply not enough. The murders of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, Tony McDade and so many others highlight the reality of a history of racism and oppression that persist in our country.
As a theatre committed to the work of equity, diversity, and inclusion, CRT stands in solidarity with every person and organization committed to fighting racism in its many ugly forms.
Black lives matter. Black artists matter.
CRT has not always succeeded in creating an equitable and inclusive space for all members of our company. As we work towards realizing our mission of creating an artistic home for staff, artists, students, and patrons, we humbly commit to continue our journey with renewed determination.
Our staff is taking this time to listen, educate ourselves, reflect on our institutional history, and imagine the path to the CRT our artists and community need us to be. We know we won’t always get it right, but we will hold ourselves accountable every day on our stages and off.
