A Summer Like No Other
Dear Friends,
Thank you so much for your patience as CRT has grappled with the challenges and uncertainties surrounding this season. We have met with our Board of Trustees, spoken as a staff, listened to public health officials, and explored the guidance from the acting union (AEA), and it has become clear that we will not be able to produce shows this summer, even in an outdoor space.
We know that now more than ever the arts are needed, particularly for our students. With the support of Public Health, we will be holding our educational day camps in July and annual KID Show in early August. Please visit our Education page to register your student or learn about the programs available this summer. Our Young Audience Outreach Tour will go out this spring. It will be a remount of a past favorite, Reading! And Other Superpowers. The originally scheduled tour of The Guava Tree has been postponed to fall 2021. The staff is excited to put a new level of focus and care into our educational programming this summer.
We are hoping to get creative later this summer with some special events and outdoor programming later in the summer. Please know that all programming will be planned with the utmost caution and safety to keep Creede residents, visitors, CRT staff, and company members safe and healthy in the months ahead.
CRT’s 55th Season poster – “Late January Light, La Garitas & Elk” by Stephen Quiller – will be on sale in our Mainstage lobby and online beginning July 4th.
This will be a summer like none other for CRT. We are taking advantage of this change of pace and are delighted to focus on our community and the work that is critical to our mission. You may see us doing readings for kids in the park, or reading plays together with the community. You will definitely see us upgrading the beauty and safety of our theatre, housing, and other facilities. We will debut a brand new CRT website this fall, which will make the ticket buying and donation process more accessible. I’m proud and appreciative of the silver linings that the staff has been able to find during this tough time and for the support that our extended CRT family has continued to offer throughout.
Even though we have been able to drastically reduce expenses, with virtually no earned income coming in for the rest of 2020, CRT, like most arts organizations around the country, are facing very difficult financial times. There are still many ways to help CRT – whether it’s supporting our education programs, facility improvements, or to help keep our lights on and our staff on payroll through a donation towards general operating expenses. I’m sure this announcement won’t come as a surprise to many of you. Our hearts are heavy to not be producing a season of shows, but we will come back stronger than ever in the summer of 2021. We cannot wait to celebrate with you then.
