Update to the Headwaters New Play Festival Submission Process

Dear Playwrights:
Over the past several years, Creede Rep has been reflecting on our practices around our Headwaters New Play Festival submission process. We have been in discussions about how best to truly serve and support our playwrights, CRT as a whole, and how best to nurture compelling new stories from a wider variety of voices. For 2022 and beyond, CRT will be moving away from an open submission process for our New Play Festival held in August of next year. More details about this shift will be announced in early 2022, and we look forward to sharing our discoveries with you.

Sincerely,
Kate Berry
Associate Artistic Director & Headwaters New Play Festival Coordinator

Young Audience Outreach Tour

One-third of CRT’s productions are new works, and every year CRT commissions a new show for it’s celebrated Young Audience Outreach Tour (YAOT). The goal of this program is to bring theatre to thousands of kids in rural and underserved communities throughout the Southwest while creating an exciting opportunity for emerging playwrights. Bilingual (English/Spanish) plays are preferred, but not required. With 35 years of successful productions we are looking for playwrights interested in working among a collaborative artistic team.

The KID Show

The KID Show‘s mission is to provoke and empower the creative minds of local youth while placing them in a professional environment and encouraging them to play. Since 2003, a professional team of CRT actors, directors, playwrights, painters, designers, and stage managers mentor local kids (ages 10-18) through the process of creating a fully produced, original show. Kids participate in every aspect of the play-making experience; they design and assist in building costumes, scenery, and puppets while rehearsing the play they ultimately perform in CRT’s state-of-the-art Ruth Humphreys Brown Theatre. We are looking for family-friendly plays written for young actors, with a cast size of 10-16.
