ASK A KID

Book & Lyrics by Steve Moulds
Music by Andy Hudson
Directed by Jenni Harbour

JULY 28 – 30

A SciFi Musical…
A group of friends form an advice column for students at their school and it’s a runaway success. But when the questions coming in start getting weird, the kids investigate. Is someone pranking them – or are these bizarro messages surprisingly sincere? A new sci-fi musical about friendship, empathy, and what it means to be human.
World Premiere, Family Friendly

The KID Show’s mission is to provoke and empower the creative minds of local youth while placing them in a professional environment and encouraging them to play.

Director’s Note

I was a pre-teen during the pivotal beginnings of social media as a form of communication and expression. I fancied myself a coding genius because I was able to embed sad, angsty music and deftly change the order of my “Top Eight” friends on my MySpace profile. Those years of Instant Messenger away messages and early Facebook statuses were meant to bring us closer together as a society, but I couldn’t help feeling very alone behind my keyboard. In Ask a Kid, we get to explore what it means to be human in this increasingly digital age. Can we truly connect through emojis, GIFs, and WikiHows? Can we invite others into our humanity through a digital friend request? We can trust each other…right? The KID Show program was my first introduction to working with the Education Department at Creede Rep. I am constantly learning, growing, and being inspired by our resilient students who decide to take the leap and do theatre together at 9,000ft. I would ask these “kids” anything and be excited for the insight into our humanity that would be revealed in their answers.
