New Play Submission Guidelines

HEADWATERS NEW PLAY FESTIVAL SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

To be considered for the Headwaters New Play Festival, a play must never have had a professional production and the playwright must be available to attend the workshop week (typically in late August).

Since 2015’s festival, our goal has been to more accurately reflect the diversity of human experience by reserving one of our two slots for women and playwrights of color. We are seeking full-length plays, musicals, and plays with music, one submission per playwright.

Submissions for 2020 are now OPEN. Submissions close when we receive 200 scripts or January 19th 2020, whichever comes first. PDF format only. No resubmissions. Please note that while we do accept plays with music and musicals, we rarely have the resources to produce them in a reading format.

As of 12/3/19 we have received 172 submissions.

YOUNG AUDIENCE OUTREACH TOUR SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

One-third of CRT’s productions are new works, and every year CRT commissions a new show for it’s celebrated Young Audience Outreach Tour (YAOT). The goal of this program is to bring theatre to thousands of kids in rural and underserved communities throughout the Southwest while creating an exciting opportunity for emerging playwrights. Bilingual (English/Spanish) plays are preferred, but not required. With 35 years of successful productions we are looking for playwrights interested in working among a collaborative artistic team.

Submissions for 2020 are now closed. Thank you to everyone who participated.

THE KID SHOW SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

The KID Show‘s mission is to provoke and empower the creative minds of local youth while placing them in a professional environment and encouraging them to play. Since 2003, a professional team of CRT actors, directors, playwrights, painters, designers, and stage managers mentor local kids (ages 10-18) through the process of creating a fully produced, original show. Kids participate in every aspect of the play-making experience; they design and assist in building costumes, scenery, and puppets while rehearsing the play they ultimately perform in CRT’s state-of-the-art Ruth Humphreys Brown Theatre. We are looking for family-friendly plays written for young actors, with a cast size of 10-16.

Submissions for 2020 are now closed. Thank you to everyone who participated.
